Going into today’s game, the Phillies have been struggling at the plate. In the last three games, they have only had eight hits. A.J. Burnett made the start for the Phillies today, looking to regain his command that has been off the last few starts. Ubaldo Jimenez made the start for the Orioles for his second start of the spring.
The Game: The Phillies got off to a fast start today, something they have been lacking in last few games. To lead off the game, Ben Revere hit a single to left and Freddy Galvis followed with a walk. Chase Utley came to bat and grounded out to first, but moved up Revere and Galvis for a productive out. Ryan Howard followed by working a walk to load the bases. After a Darin Ruf pop out, Domonic Brown came up to the plate. Going into today’s game Brown was only hitting .080. This time Brown came through in the clutch after he hit a triple to right field plating three early runs. 3-0 Phillies
The Phillies were back at in the second. Bobby Abreu worked a walk to lead off the inning. Though Maikel Franco grounded into a double play, that didn’t stop the Phillies. Ben Revere hit a triple for his second hit of the game. Galvis followed with a triple of his own scoring Revere. In the bottom inning, the Orioles struck back. Chris Davis led off with a single and Nelson Cruz followed with a ground rule double. Ryan Flaherty put the Orioles on the board with a sac fly. 4-1 Phillies
In the fourth inning, were gunning for more. Cameron Rupp lead off with a single and Booby Abreu hit a double to put runners on third and second. Maikel Franco came through and hit a single to score Rupp. Revere followed with a sac fly to scored Abreu. 6-1 Phillies
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Orioles started to craw back into the game. After A.J. Burnett allowed a lead off walk, Nolan Reimold took him deep for a homerun. Shawn Camp replaced Burnett got three quick outs. 6-3 Phillies
In the bottom of the ninth, the Oriole had there last shot to retake the lead. Ceaser Jimenez allowed a lead off walk to Michael Almanzar. Though he got the next two outs, Alex Gonzalez still took him deep to put the Orioles down by one. Jimenez would record the last out to win the game. 6-5 Phillies
Other Phillies pitchers making appearance in the game were Phillippe Aumont and Kevin Munson.
Some notable offensive perforemances:
Ben Revere 2-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 walk, triple
Freddy Galvis 1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 walk, triple
Domonic Brown 1-3, 3 RBI, triple
Bobby Abreu 2-3 1 R, 1 Walk, double, triple
Impact: The bats looked a lot more productive then in resent games. It was nice to see the Phillies hit four triples including one from 40 year old, Bobby Abreu. Also, Abreu doesn’t appear terrible in the outfield with the Phillies were to make him a bench player. It was also nice to see Brown to break out of his slump.
Up Next: The Phillies will be at home tomorrow when they face the Yankees at 1:05 pm. The Phillies have yet to name their starter for the game. Whom ever it may be, he will be opposed by Ivan Nova. Nova this spring is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA. With that said the Phillies will be looking to continue swing the bat tomorrow to possibly start a win streak.
