Phillies Hot Stove: Club Has ‘Handshake Agreement’ to Acquire Machado on Wednesday?

By Matt Rappa, Sports Talk Philly editor

It appears Manny Machado's appearance in Tuesday evening's 89th Midsummer Classic could be his last in a Baltimore Orioles uniform.

The Philadelphia Phillies reportedly have a "handshake agreement" to acquire the Orioles' four-time All-Star Wednesday morning, according to Barstool Sports and SportsRadio 94 WIP's Joe Giglio.

MASN's Roch Kubatko has refuted such rumors, however, saying the Orioles do not have a "deal done" with the Phillies, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers "also still involved." Kubatko did say, however, that he has been told a deal is "very close," with nothing yet agreed upon. MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli echoes Kubatko's report, saying there is "no deal in place for Machado," and that rumors suggesting one exists with the Phillies are "untrue."

UPDATE, 11:08 p.m,.: MLB.com's Jon Morosi reports the Phillies are the "most likely destination" for Machado, as the club is willing to part ways with No. 2 prospect Adonis Medina. The trade is "very close."

Earlier on Monday, The Athletic's Jayson Stark said there is "some sense" that the Orioles are "essentially in agreement on a deal," but that the Orioles wanted to delay a trade until after the All-Star Game, given Machado is the club's only representative with the game just "40 miles up the road."
