Cristopher Sanchez

The injury bug continues to bite the Philadelphia Phillies.

Starting pitcher Cristopher Sanchez was lifted from Tuesday’s 5-1 loss to the New York Mets after two innings of work. The highly thought of lefty threw just 58 pitches and his velocity was down considerably from past starts and his location was off. The Phillies announced his departure was due to “left forearm soreness.” Those three dreaded words are traditionally tied to an impending Tommy John surgery situation.

However, the Phillies are cautiously optimistic about Sanchez’s health.

Through his interpreter, Sanchez told the assembled media that he “feels normal” and he believes the issue is not something he is going to have to worry about. Sanchez added that he was checked by team athletic trainers shortly after his removal and everything seemed okay. Manager Rob Thomson echoed Sanchez’s sentiments, stating he’s not anticipating losing the lefty for any considerable amount of time.

The team also updated the status of rehabbing starting pitcher Ranger Suarez.

Here’s the latest…
