Yesterday, the Phillies (52-65) lost by one after falling short in a ninth inning come back. Today, looking to tie up the four game series with the Mets (56-61), the Phillies sent their ace Cole Hamels (6-6 2.37 ERA) to the hill. Hamels lost his last start, but only gave up one run. The Mets countered with veteran pitcher, Dillon Gee (4-4 3.54 ERA). Gee hasn’t won a game since July 9th, and took the loss to the Phillies on July 29th.
The Game:
Both pitchers dueled through the first four innings before the Mets broke through in the fifth. Lucas Duda led off with a single to center. Travis d’Arnaud worked a walk, and Juan Lagares followed with a single to load the bases. Wilmer Flores hit a harder grounder to Cody Asche, who dove for the ball and out the out at second, while run a scored for the Mets. 1-0 Mets
In the seventh and two outs, Carlos Ruiz took Gee deep on a bomb to left field to tie the game at one a piece. 1-1 TIE
The Game would go to extra innings. Antonio Bastardo came in the 11th inning. Curtis Granderson led off with a single. Then with one out, David Wright singled to put runners on the corners. After Eric Campbell worked a walk to load the bases, Lucas Duda singled to right to break the tie. Justin DeFratus replaced Bastardo and got the last two outs, but it was already too late for the Phillies. In the bottom of the inning, Jimmy Rollins flew out and Chase Utley grounded out before Ryan Howard hit a single to right. Marlon Byrd followed with a walk, before Domonic Brown grounded to short for the final out. 2-1 Mets FINAL

Carlos Ruiz: 2-4 HR
Impact: The Phillies failed to win for a packed house to celebrated World Champion Manager Charlie Manuel being placed on the Wall of Fame in center field. With the Phillies current record they are the fourth worst team in the NL and seventh worst in the league.
Up Next: The Phillies will send Kyle Kendrick (5-11 4.74 ERA) to the hill looking to work toward split the series with back-to-back wins. Kendrick is coming off his best start of the season by far going seven innings of one run ball over the Astros. The Mets will counter Kendrick with Zach Wheeler (7-8 3.43 ERA). Wheeler is coming off back-to-back wins over the Phillies and Nationals.
