Well, we thought we were going to have to wait. Despite Reds General Manager Walt Jocketty saying that he was going to wait to complete his manager search after the World Series, it appears he has made a decision before the World Series even starts. Tonight, news broke that Bryan Price, considered a candidate for the Phillies' pitching coach vacancy, will be named the new manager of the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow.
Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. noted that he had already interviewed a few candidates for the pitching coach position. Perhaps Price was one of them and had been putting pressure on the Reds to make a decision. Either way, Price will not be an option and the Phillies will have to look elsewhere.
Rod Nichols interviewed for the position and remains a candidate for the bullpen coach position, too. As to who else is being considered for the position, no news has leaked out. Dave Wallace is a candidate to be a pitching coach that other teams are reportedly targeting, but nothing has linked him to the Phillies yet. Wallace was pitching coach for the 2004 World Series champion Boston Red Sox before falling ill. He has since recovered and is working in the Atlanta Braves minor league system.
