Major League Baseball is offering yet another alternate uniform opportunity. The Phillies already wear their home pinstripe jerseys, home cream-colored throwback jerseys, gray road jerseys, and red alternate jerseys. Special jerseys thus far included patriotic jerseys on Memorial Day Weekend and July 4th Weekend, along with special jerseys for Mother's Day and Father's Day. Now we can add one more to the list.
To celebrate Players Weekend, each team is offering a special one-time jersey that is not only a unique design, but players can put whatever name they wish on the back (I assume no profanity is allowed).
Here are what nicknames the Phillies will be wearing:
- Andrew Knapp is "Knapp Time"
- Aaron Altherr is "A-A-Ron"
- Ricardo Pinto is "Pinto Bean"
- Casey Fien is "Fien Machine"
- Odubel Herrera is predictably "Torrito" (minus the "el")
- Cesar Hernandez is "Cesita" (Spanish for "blindness")
- Hyun Soo Kim is using the opportunity to wear his name in Korean
- Vince Velasquez went with "Vincente" (Note: "Vicente" is typically how "Vincent" is spelled in Spanish)
- Andres Blanco is wearing his usual "Whitey"
- Nick Williams is "Nicky Dubs"
- Cameron Rupp" is "Pavo" (Is this a country music thing?)
- Freddy Galvis is "Toco" (Spanish for "I play")
- Ty Kelly is "TK"
- Tommy Joseph is "Tojo"
- Adam Morgan is "A-Mo"
- Maikel Franco went with "Compa F" ("friend" in Spanish"), copied by "Compa G" Luis Garcia and "Compa N" Hector Neris
- Clay Buchholz (well, he still gets a Phillies paycheck" went with "Buck"
- Aaron Nola decided to represent his hometown of New Orleans, LA by going with "NOLA" on his jersey.
- Cameron Perkins, Daniel Nava, and Nick Pivetta went with, "Perkins", "Nava", and "Pivetta", respectively.
No longer a Phillie, Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer notes that for the Dodgers, Chase Utley decided on "Silver Fox".
