Phillies began to assemble their new minor league staff by hiring Dave Brundage to be manager of the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Brundage was a 1986 Phillies draft pick and played in the Phillies system for two seasons, reaching AA Reading before heading to the Seattle Mariners organization. Brundage was mostly a minor league outfielder, but did pitch some in his minor league career.
Brundage comes from the Altanta Braves organization, where he managed at AAA level since 2007. In 2007, the Richmond Braves won the International League title. In 2009 Brundage moved with the AAA team to Gwinnett, and while at Gwinnett, Brundage managed current Braves stars Craig Kimbrel, Kris Medlen, Jason Heyward, and Freddie Freeman, as well as many other recognizable other names.
Lehigh Valley will also need a pitching coach as well as Rod Nichols joins the Phillies' major league coaching staff as bullpen coach.
