Phillies news: Cody Asche on All-Star ballot

The MLB opened voting for this summer's All-Star game this past Sunday and the Philadelphia Phillies list featured a curious name.

Cody Asche, who didn't play during Spring Training and hasn't played during the regular season due to a quad injury, is one of the three outfielders that play for the Phillies on the ballot. The other two are Odubel Herrera and Peter Bourjos.

To be fair, Asche is on the list instead of Darin Ruf, Tyler Goeddel or David Lough, who are hitting a combined .195 this season, so it isn't as though Asche is blocking another deserving Phillies outfielder from getting votes. Fans can also write in those three for the All-Star game, should they choose to do so.

Thus far, Maikel Franco and Vince Velasquez appear to be the most likely players to represent the Phillies at the mid-summer classic, though given how early it is, other players like Jerad Eickhoff can't be ruled out.

Fans can vote for the All-Star game until 11:59 p.m. on June 30th. The All-Star game will take place on Tuesday, July 12, at Petco Park in San Diego.
