Phillies open four-game set against Wainwright, Cardinals

ST. LOUIS — Coming off of back-to-back series sweeps — amid a six-game winning streak — the Philadelphia Phillies (15-10) will look for continued success as they hit the road to face right-hander Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals (12-13) Monday evening in the first of a four-game set at Busch Stadium.

The Phillies will play their next 10 games on the road in a span of 11 days. After St. Louis, they will play three games in Miami and Atlanta each before returning to Citizens Bank Park on May 13 to kick-off a nine-game homestand.

Hellickson's only career start against the Cardinals came on July 3, 2011, at Tropicana Field. He averaged 3.24 pitches per batter faced, inducing eight ground balls and 18 fly balls.

The right-hander is coming off of his best start of the season, yielding just two hits and three walks in seven shutout innings against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

Wainwright is having an uncharacteristic start to the season thus far through five appearances, allowing 22 earned runs over 27 2/3 innings pitched.

The 11-year veteran has surrendered 15 extra-base hits against 126 total batters faced and has struck out more than three batters just once, his most recent appearance on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
