Just last month, the Phillies had 40 men competing for a spot on the 25-man Opening Day roster. After last night's final decisions, the Opening Day roster is set and it's looking a bit blank with the absences of Ryan Howard and Chase Utley.
Although the Phillies will start the season with five players on the DL, the roster is still strong in many ways.
The Phillies' Opening Day Roster:
Pitchers:
Right-handers: Joe Blanton, Roy Halladay, David Herndon, Kyle Kendrick, Jonathan Papelbon, Chad Qualls, Michael Stutes and Vance Worley.
Left-handers: Antonio Bastardo, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Joe Savery.
Catchers:
Carlos Ruiz and Brian Schneider.
Infielders:
Freddy Galvis, Pete Orr, Placido Polanco, Jimmy Rollins, Jim Thome and Ty Wigginton.
Outfielders:
John Mayberry Jr., Laynce Nix, Hunter Pence, Juan Pierre and Shane Victorino.
DL:
Ryan Howard (achilles), Chase Utley (knee), Michael Martinez (foot), Jose Contreras (elbow), Justin DeFratus (elbow)
We're just about 24 hours away from Opening Day!
