The Philadelphia Phillies made a few more cuts on Monday. In somewhat of a surprising move, the team decided to option Roman Quinn to Triple-A. Heading to Lehigh Valley with Quinn is right-hander Zach Eflin and southpaw Zac Curtis.

Quinn slashed .268/.375/.341 in 22 games, hitting a homer, driving in five runs, stealing nine bases and scoring eight runs. He had been playing outfield for the majority of his time in the Phillies organization even though he was a shortstop when drafted. The Phillies played Quinn at short and in the outfield this spring, but they probably thought he could use some more time at different positions in the minors. Position flexibility is something Gabe Kapler seems to like, so Quinn will more than likely play a bevy of positions with the Ironpigs.
With Quinn going to the minors, that means Pedro Florimon will occupy one of the bench spots. Florimon is slashing .283/.377/.522 this spring with four doubles, two triples, a home run, four RBIs and 12 runs scored
The next notable player sent to the minors is Zach Eflin. Finally with two healthy knees, there were high expectations for Eflin this spring, but he struggled surrendering nine earned runs in 14 innings pitched. He's still only 23 years old, so there is plenty of time for Eflin to make his way back onto the Major League roster. It looks like the Phillies rotation will consist of Aaron Nola, Jake Arrieta, Vince Velasquez, Ben Lively and Nick Pivetta. Jerad Eickhoff is out with a mild lat strain.
Zac Curtis was also optioned on Monday. He appeared in 10 games this spring for the Phillies, allowing just one run over seven innings of work, striking out nine and walking three. He didn't have much of a chance to make the Opening Day roster, but he might be a good left-handed depth piece if Hoby Milner or Adam Morgan goes down with an injury.
