Jake Thompson gets another shot with the Phillies (Frank Klose/Sports Talk Philly)
The Phillies shuffled their roster once again on Thursday. After injuries to starting pitchers Vince Velasquez and Zach Eflin, combined with a double-header and Nick Pivetta's struggles, the Phillies are running out of options. Though his performance has not necessarily demanded it, the Phillies have recalled pitcher Jake Thompson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
In order to make room for Thompson, the Phillies optioned reliever Ricardo Pinto to Triple-A. Pinto probably comes back once rosters expand and Lehigh Valley's season is over. The slot on the roster occupied by newly-summoned Yacksel Rios is probably safe for now. Rios pitched impressively in his major league debut on Tuesday, throwing one and two-thirds scoreless innings.
Meanwhile, the Phillies could see the return of Daniel Nava soon from the disabled list. Emergency reliever Drew Anderson is still with the Phillies in the spot vacated by Cameron Perkins. If all goes well today, the Phillies may send Anderson back to Triple-A and activate Nava prior to the weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
