The Phillies have had one real success story with the development of Zach Eflin. With a 7-2 record and 3.15 earned run average, a good amount of the success the Phillies have had so far can be credited to Eflin. In recent days, Eflin has been dealing with a blister on his throwing finger. Unfortunately, it appears it looks like it will sideline Eflin temporarily.
Eflin is going to be placed on the disabled list with a blister on his finger, reports Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer. To take Eflin's place in the rotation Sunday, Enyel De Los Santos will start. As Matt Gelb of The Athletic noted earlier, De Los Santos was in Miami just in case Eflin could not pitch.
Eflin last started during Monday's double-header. Putting Eflin on the disabled list retroactively to Tuesday and with next week's All-Star break, Eflin may only miss this one start. With a four-day break, the Phillies will not need another starter until Tuesday, July 24, more than enough time to satisfy the 10-day disabled list requirement.
Speaking of De Los Santos, Phillies prospect Adonis Medina will be added to the Futures Game roster on Sunday in place of De Los Santos. The two starts in the major leagues means De Los Santos will miss both the Futures Game and Triple-A All-Star game. But helping the big league club win is probably a better experience for De Los Santos.
