Phillies Prospect Tyson Gillies Suspended

Gillies

According to CSN's Jim Salisbury, Phillies outfield prospect Tyson Gillies has been suspended for violating team rules. Gillies was traded by the Mariners to the Phillies along with Phillippe Aumount, and J.C. Ramirez as part of the three-team trade that sent Cliff Lee to Seattle and brought Roy Halladay to Philadelphia.

It is unclear what it is exactly that Gillies did to become suspended. But it seems to be unrelated to his previous problems. Back in August of 2010, Gillies was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine. Although charged with possession, Gillies passed all drug tests that tested for cocaine, marijuana and opiates. Charges were dropped due to the fact that the cocaine was found in the back of a police cruiser that had not been properly searched before Gillies was placed in the vehicle.

In 44 games with Double-A Reading this season, Gillies is hitting .291 with two home runs, 16 RBI and six triples.

We'll pass along any information on Gillies and this situation.

UPDATE: Jay Floyd of PhoulBallz.com, who runs a great minor league Phillies blog, had a specific explanation for Gillies' suspension:

As far as the offense that led to Gillies temporarily parting ways with his team, another source close to the R-Phils has confirmed that Gillies recently had a confrontation with the club's bus driver which escalated to an unreasonable level. The incident was described as non-physical and uncalled for.
