Phillies Re-Sign Carlos Ruiz

According to multiple sources around the league, including Matt Gelb and Ken Rosenthal, the Philadelphia Phillies have resigned catcher Carlos Ruiz. The deal is set for 3 years and $26 million in total. Gelb also reports that the contract includes a club option for a fourth year in 2017.

Chooch was a relatively ot commodity around the league. Throughout the last couple of weeks, links to teams like the Rockies, Red Sox, and Blue Jays all had Ruiz on their targets. But, after many believed they had seen his last game in Phillies pinstripes, Chooch has been brought back home. But was it the right move? At 34 years old (35 when the season kicks off), Ruiz will be here until at least the age of 38, 39 if the option is picked up. His numbers are still above average when compared to the rest of the league, but can he keep that up? Ruiz played in just 92 games last season and saw his numbers fall a bit from his "breakout" 2012.

The press conference will probably take place on Thursday (per CSN), where you can watch Ruben Amaro Jr. answer all questions as disingenuous as possible.
