The Philadelphia Phillies will play their fifth game of a 17-game stretch without an off day Tuesday evening against the New York Mets.
Since Friday, when the stretch began, 14 Phillies relievers have combined to throw 21 innings, with the club's starters lasting just seven, four, six, and four innings over the four games (also 21 total innings). The bullpen has thrown 15 innings alone over the last two games.
In an effort to keep their arms fresh, on Tuesday the club sent down RHP Drew Anderson and recalled RHP Jerad Eickhoff from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.
Anderson, 25, tossed a pair of scoreless innings on Monday for his 2019 debut, walking two and striking out two on 20 total pitches. He was called up hours earlier from Triple-A to replace injured veteran RHP David Robertson, recently placed on the 10-day injured list.
Eickhoff, 28, a former Phillies starting rotation arm, had posted a 2-0 record, 4.50 ERA and 10-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio spanning two starts and 10 innings with the IronPigs this season.
