PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies have released right-hander Ernesto Frieri, according to Matt Provence. In a corresponding move, right-hander Reinier Roibal was promoted from Double-A Reading to replace Frieri at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
This spring, Frieri, 30, allowed 10 runs, nine earned, on seven hits, four walks and five home runs spanning seven innings.
The seven-year veteran, who did not make the Phillies Opening Day roster, signed a minor league deal with the organization on Dec. 10.
