Phillies release Ruben Amaro’s nephew

As the Philadelphia Eagles attempt to rid themselves of everything Chip Kelly, or so it seems, the Philadelphia Phillies released former general manager Ruben Amaro's nephew this afternoon.

Andrew, 22, went to William Penn Charter in high school and then played in college at the University of Maryland. The Phillies selected him in the 35th round of last year's draft, just a few months before his uncle was let go as general manager. As Randy Miller of NJ Advance Media pointed out at that time, the Phillies drafted Amaro in the 47th round of the 2011 draft as well, but he elected to go to college at that time.

In 20 games between low-A and Single-A, Andrew batted .218 with 12 hits in 55 at-bats in 2015.
