Phillies rematch with top prospects in Futures Series, exhibition finale

By: Matt Rappa, managing editor

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies (1-0) and right-hander Charlie Morton will have the opportunity to make their final preparations ahead of the regular season, as they face the Phillies Futures (0-1) in the final game of the Futures Series Saturday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park.

In the first game of the Futures Series in Reading, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, the Phillies slugged eight home runs against the Futures as they went on to produce 19 runs on 21 hits to win in convincing fashion over their prospects. The Phillies were 5-9 with runners in scoring position and produced eight, two-out runs-batted-in.

The No. 2-ranked prospect in the Phillies' organization by MLB.com—right-hander Jake Thompson—will earn the starting nod for the Futures. Thompson, 22, was acquired from the Texas Rangers on July 31. He was reassigned to minor-league camp on March 10 after two spring training appearances—March 3 against the Astros and March 9 against the Twins.

Admission is free for college students with a valid ID presented.
