Phillies Reportedly "Considering" Roger Bernadina

Today the Washington Nationals acquired outfielder David De Jesus from the Chicago Cubs, requiring that the team made a roster move. That corresponding move was the release of outfielder Roger Bernadina. According to CSN's Jim Salisbury, the Phillies are showing some interest.

Bernadina has struggled greatly this year, hitting just .178. He presumably would be looked at to fill a left-handed bench role, vacated by Laynce Nix.  On the right side, the Phillies have John Mayberry and Casper Wells. The question is, do the Phillies need another sub-.200 hitter?

If the Phillies do indeed sign Bernadina, it would be hard to evaluate Wells and Bernadina at the same time, particularly if they're trying to evaluate Ruf's competency in the outfield. But Ruf started at first base tonight, either indicating that they're okay with his outfield play or just that they need to find outfield opportunities for their extras now.

If I needed to decide playing time among Wells, Mayberry, or Bernadina, I would pass on Bernadina who may not be anything more than what the team already has
