With the one-year anniversary of the tragic death of 2010 National League Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay to occur on Wednesday, a current Philadelphia Phillies ace — Aaron Nola — is in the running to earn the same award, eight years later.
The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced Monday evening the top three vote-getters for the award. To no surprise, Nola is listed, along with fellow National League East right-handers Jacob deGrom (New York Mets) and Max Scherzer (Washington Nationals).
The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m.
Aaron Nola is the first Phillies homegrown pitcher to ever finish in the top three for the Cy Young Award.
