While Philadelphia Phillies fans spend Friday evening monitoring Twitter to see if the club trades Jeremy Hellickson, another veteran could potentially be on the move.
According to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN, the Kansas City Royals are considering adding another outfielder, with Howie Kendrick on the list of possibilities:
#Royals are contemplating adding a corner OF bat for stretch run. Two possibilities: #Phillies Howie Kendrick and #Whitesox Melky Cabrera.

Kendrick is currently day-to-day with a hand injury, but this doesn't seem to be an injury that will keep him out as long as his oblique and hamstring injuries did earlier this season. Translation: if a team really wants to trade for Kendrick before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, a bruised hand probably won't keep them from doing so.
The Royals are an interesting potetial suitor for Kendrick because they also seem to be a fit for Hellickson. It doesn't seem impossible that general manager Matt Klentak packages the two in a trade with the Royals. Hellickson was scratched from his scheduled start tonight and Kendrick's hand kept him out of the lineup.
Whether Kendrick is traded with Hellickson or traded alone, don't expect a major return for the 34-year-old. Though he's been extremely effective when he's played — he's slashing .340/.397/.454 — the aforementioned injuries have limited him to just 39 games in his first season with the Phillies. If Kendrick can stay healthy, he's versatile and is hitting well this year, so he makes a lot of sense for contending teams. Unfortunately for the Phillies, there's too many "ifs" for them to get anything close to substantive for Kendrick.
If Kendrick isn't traded prior to Monday's 4 p.m. ET non-waiver trade deadline, he's a near lock, assuming health, to be traded in August.
