The injured-riddled Philadelphia Phillies, albeit sitting atop the National League East, are becoming healthier and healthier.
Sunday evening, the club announced that utility player Scott Kingery will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Low-A Lakewood on Monday. The Phillies plan for Kingery to play seven innings at shortstop; manager Gabe Kapler recently said they hope to also play him at second, third and in center field during the assignment, "although he won't necessarily play a full game at each position," notes Philly.com's Scott Lauber.
Kingery, 25, has been on the injured list since April 20 due to a right hamstring strain; he began a running program a couple of weeks ago. Prior to his injury, Kingery slashed .406/.457/.719, over 14 games and 35 plate appearances, with seven singles, four doubles, two home runs, six RBI, one walk and five strikeouts.
Barring any setbacks, Kingery should be able to rejoin the Phillies by this upcoming weekend.
