Phillies Send Cole Hamels to the Hill Looking to Take the Series

Yesterday, the Mariners (68-57) took game two of a three game series. A.J. Burnett (6-14 4.42 ERA) went seven and two-thirds innings, while giving up five runs on six hits. With the series split, the Phillies will send ace Cole Hamels (6-6 2.44 ERA) to the hill. Hamels took the no decision in his last start versus the Giants. In the start, Hamels went seven innings giving up three runs on nine hits. The Mariners will counter with James Paxton (3-0 2.20 ERA). Paxton returned to the big leagues on August 2nd. Since his return, Paxton only won his last start versus Tigers going six innings giving up one run on six hits.

 Game Notes:

  • Burnett after last nights start said will probably not return next season and will retire.
  • Phillies President David Montgomery said yesterday that Ruben Amaro’s job is not in jeopardy.
  • Darrin Ruf will get the start in left field against the left-hander.
  • Andres Blanco will start at third base giving Asche the day off.
