We are getting closer and closer to Friday's 4:00 p.m. trade deadline. However, the trade deadline for starter Cole Hamels might be the night before at 7:05 p.m. when Hamels is scheduled to make a start at Citizens Bank Park. Thus, the Phillies are reportedly telling teams to give them their best and final offers.
Jayson Stark of ESPN reports:
The Philadelphia Phillies have told several teams interested in acquiring Cole Hamels that they'd like to get their "best" offers by Wednesday, sources told ESPN.com.
The team would then make a decision about where — and whether — to trade him.
Stark also suggests that this could be a way to get teams to include players they previously said to be "untouchable."
The Phillies have no shortage of potential suitors, and that list seems to grow by the day. With David Price likely staying out of trade talk, Hamels is the one ace pitcher available at the deadline. With a limited no-trade clause, Hamels has some say as to his final destination, but many of the interested teams Hamels has no say about.
