Urías and 25 other Sultanes players partook in last Saturday's showcase before multiple major league scouts, according to purobeisbol.mx's Héctor Bencomo.
Bencomo adds, through translation, that while "the rules for the sale of players [to big league clubs] have never been explained to the media," the showcased players must be on "an official list" and at least 16 years of age.
Urías, who started playing baseball at the age of 8 and worked his way up through various youth leagues in Mexico, is approximately 6-foot-5 tall and weighs-in at 225 pounds. Urías is known for his "great physical projection" and "consistency of his pitches on the strike zone," throwing around 90 miles per hour.
"I feel very excited and excited for this opportunity that you are giving me," Urías told the Phillies, through translation. "I know that I have to work harder, I know that this is just beginning, but I am here to improve. I feel very happy for all that is happening and thank God. "
Native to Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico, Urías will turn 17 on Thursday.
Urías will begin his big league journey and development in this year's Dominican Summer League.
