Phillies Sign Jason Marquis to Minor League Contract

The Phillies have reportedly signed veteran starting pitcher, Jason Marquis, to a minor league contract. He will report to Clearwater to take part in extended spring training.  Marquis, 35, underwent Tommy John Surgery last July and has been working out for teams, sporting an 88-90mph fastball.

Marquis has pitched in the bigs for 14 years, most recently with the Padres in 2013, where he posted a 9-5 record and a 4.05 ERA. With the Phillies bullpen hurting everywhere with the exception of Papelbon and Adams, Marquis could provide an effective, long-relief presence that the team clearly needs.

Marquis owns a career ERA of 4.59 with a 5.3 K/9, 3.5 BB/9 and a 50.7 percent ground-ball rate.
