Apparently the Philadelphia Phillies' front-office likes Pete Mackanin's 50 cent fines, because they may have used the reported sum of near $1,000 that Mackanin has collected in fines this Spring Training to give him a new contract.
The club announced this afternoon that they have signed Mackanin to a new two-year deal, also adding in a club option for 2018.

This contract, which includes a club option for the 2018 season, replaces the contract previously signed by Mackanin last September.

Mackanin had his interim tag stripped from his title late last season when the Phillies signed him to a contract for the 2016 season. That deal, which was given by current president Andy MacPhail before new general manager Matt Klentak was hired, essentially turned into a place-holder for this deal.
Mackanin, 64, has been an interim manager three times in his career, but 2016 will serve as the first time that he's ever been a full-time manager at the major league level.
