The Phillies finally snapped their nine-game losing streak in a Thursday matinee in Minneapolis, Minnesota against the Twins. Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoff tried to build on his recent success and translate it into team success. Eickhoff was aided by the offense of shortstop Freddy Galvis, who drove in five runs, and Cesar Hernandez, who went 4 for 4, en route to a 7-3 Phillies win.
The Phillies quietly went down in the first inning, but the Twins did not. Robbie Grossman opened the game with a single and after he reached, Eduardo grounded into a fielder's choice. With Escobar the lone base runner at first, Brian Dozier doubled to give th Twins a quick 1-0 lead.
Phillies designated hitter Ryan Howard entered the game batting under .150, but remained the Phillies cleanup hitter. Howard batted to lead off in the top of the second inning and did not disappoint. Howard smashed a ball to center field off of Twins starter Ricky Nolasco to to I.e. The game at 1.
However, Freddy Galvis was the big offensive news of the day. Also in the top of the second inning Galvis hit a sacrifice bunt that scored Cody Asche to make it 3-1 Phillies. The a Phillies got another I the fourth inning when Odubel Herrera singled home Cesar Hernandez.
The Twins got one in the fifth inning. Twins catcher Juan Centeno scored when Eduardo Escobar hit a single to center that Herrera could not come up with. But the Phillies would get one right back when Galvis hit a triple to score Hernandez to make it 4-2 Phillies.
Galvis was not done. With Tyler Goeddel and Hernandez on the basepaths, Galvis hit a long home run to right field. That made the score 7-2 Phillies.
The Twins would get one more off of Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez in the ninth inning. But, Gomez would finally close the door, with the final 7-3.
