Despite a productive Spring Training, the Phillies assigned infielder Reid Brignac, a non-roster invitee, to AAA Lehigh Valley. Instead, they traded for infielder Jayson Nix to fill a utility infielder role. With the demotion of Freddy Galvis to AAA Lehigh Valley, it is Brignac getting the call this time around.
Brignac was hitting very well in Lehigh Valley, batting .284 with five home runs and 21 RBI. Paritcularly of late has Brignac been playing well. In his last 10 games, Brignac is batting .342 with three home runs and 12 RBI.
Brignac has appeared in the major leagues each of the last six seasons. However, Brignac carries a lifetime .221 batting average and .573 OPS. In 2013, Brignac appeared in a combined 46 games for the Colorado Rockies and New York Yankees. He batted just .185.
Cesar Hernandez did not get the call, despite hitting over .500 in his last 10 games. Hernandez has been dealing with a tight hamstring, which could be the reason that Hernandez is being passed over. Hernandez hit the minor leagues with the purpose of learning shortstop and third base.
