The Phillies and Atlanta Braves will meet once again today, just 24 hours after squaring off at Bright House Field in Clearwater. Today the Phillies make the trip east on Route 4 to Orlando to face the Braves on their Spring Training turf. After yesterday's 8-1 Braves blowout, the Phillies look to gain back some respectability against their National League foe.
David Buchanan will get the start for the Phillies today in Orlando. Thanks to injuries to Cole Hamels, Jonathan Pettibone, and a rough start by Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, Buchanan finds himself in contention for the Phillies fifth starter spot. Buchanan is 0-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two appearances.
The Braves send Julio Teheran to the mound. So far this Spring Teheran is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two starts. In five innings, Teheran has yet to allow a run or earn a decision. Teheran is considered by many to be a budding ace, and with a potential injury to probably Opening Day starter Kris Medlen, Teheran may have to fill that position in a hurry.
Game Notes:
- Bobby Abreu turns 40 years old today. He is not in the lineup.
- In the lineup is left fielder Domonic Brown, hitting just .091 this Spring.
- Julio Teheran figures to be the Braves de facto ace in 2014.
- Braves projected opening day starter Kris Medlen's MRI revealed potential ligament damage. Medlen will have more tests.
