The Phillies headed down the western Florida coast tonight to Fort Myers for a rare Spring Training night game against the Boston Red Sox. The Phillies and Red Sox will be on national television on MLB Network as Cliff Lee duels Red Sox ace Jon Lester. Former Phillies outfielder and fan favorite Shane Victorino will be in the Red Sox starting lineup.
Cliff Lee has made three Grapefruit League starts up until today. In those starts he has gone 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA. In eight and two-thirds innings he has allowed four earned runs.
Jon Lester has only made one Spring Training spot thus far. In that start, he was typical Jon Lester. In three innings of work, Lester gave up one run. Lester did throw a simulated game before making that first start, so he has more work in than it would appear. Lester will be the Red Sox starter on Opening Day.
Game Notes:
- Jimmy Rollins will be in the lineup once again for the Phillies. Freddy Galvis presumably has the day off to be with his newborn daughter.
- Ryan Howard and Chase Utley did not make the long trip to Fort Myers.
- Shane Victorino is in the Red Sox lineup today. Victorino missed some time with "core strength issues".
- The Red Sox are playing most of their starters; the lone admission is likely third baseman Will Middlebrooks
