Buried in this piece by CBS Sports' Scott Miller is a note that the Phillies talked about trading Jimmy Rollins with the Oakland Athletics today:
…they talked with the Athletics on Monday about shortstop Jimmy Rollins, an Oakland native who, at 33, signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Phillies last winter.
Oakland was not expected to contend, but find themselves right in the thick of a playoff hunt. They desire a shortstop and likely know that Rollins would enjoy playing at home.
What this says to me is that the Phillies are willing to do everything they can to retool the Phillies back into a contending roster, even if the move might appear on the surface to be unlikely or unpopular.
