Center fielder Odubel Herrera will represent Philadelphia Phillies at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game as a reserve for the National League.
Herrera entered the evening hitting .303 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs. While his defensive metrics have taken a step back from where he was in 2015, Herrera clearly has been the Phillies' best position player in 2016.
In any of the voting updates that the league made public, Herrera was not in the top 10 of fan voting for outfielders. Fans do not pick the reserves for outfielders, though it's fair to wonder if Herrera would have been an All-Star had the Phillies not been required to have on All-Star.
A season ago, the Phillies were represented by Jonathan Papelbon at the All-Star Game. Papelbon did not end up getting used in the game, meaning that Herrera will have a chance to be the first Phillie to actually play in the game since Chase Utley in 2014.
The 2016 MLB All-Star game will take place on Tuesday, July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego.
