The Philadelphia Phillies will promote southpaw reliever Austin Davis prior to Saturday evening's interleague road game against the Kansas City Royals, the second of a three-game set.
Davis, 26, has been stellar thus far in 2019; in 18 combined innings between MLB and International League (Triple-A) action, the left-hander has allowed just two runs — along with 13 hits and 10 walks, while punching out 22 of his 78 batters faced.
It is not clear who Davis will replace on the Phillies' 25-man roster. The Phillies previously optioned him to Triple-A in favor of RHP Edubray Ramos on April 22.
Update, 3:10 p.m.: The Phillies made Davis' promotion official, while also placing RHP Vince Velasquez on the injured list.
