Phillies to honor wounded police officer with first pitch at home opener

Next Monday afternoon when the Philadelphia Phillies welcome the San Diego Padres to Citizens Bank Park for their 2016 home-opener, the Phillies will have a special guest on hand.

According to Matt Gelb of Philly.com, Officer Jesse Hartnett, who was shot three times while on duty in January, will throw out the first pitch prior to the team's home-opener.

Hartnett throwing out the pitch would be an especially special moment considering that he was shot in his left arm. According to NBC 10, Hartnett had two arm surgeries in January, and was scheduled to have another one.

Hartnett has undergone numerous surgeries to repair damage caused by the three bullets that tore through his arm. He still must return to the hospital for further arm surgery.

Harnett may very well be right-handed, but to call him being able to throw out the first pitch just a few months later impressive would be an understatement.
