The Phillies will get a look into the future today as they send their second pitching prospect of the week to major league camp. Aaron Nola, the Phillies' first round pick in 2014, will get his first chance with the big leaguers today. Some felt that Nola deserved an opportunity in camp from the start, but he will get to start today against the Yankees in Clearwater.
The Yankees will pitch right-handed pitcher Michael Piñeda. Piñeda was acquired in a swap of young players which have so far been busts; the Yankees traded top prospect Jesus Montero to the Seattle Mariners. Montero has struggled for the Mariners, and also served a 50-game suspension for being a customer of Biogenesis in Miami, Florida. Piñeda, meanwhile has regularly been injured. Already down Masahiro Tanaka, the Yankees will look to Piñeda to be one of their anchors in 2015.
The Phillies lineup will once again feature the new outfield alignment that may have a chance to stick in 2015: Ben Revere in left field and Odubel Herrera in center field. The Phillies seem poised to roll with this lineup in the days up until Opening Day, especially since Domonic Brown might miss some time with a sore Achilles.
Chase Utley will have the day off, and Cody Asche, who was scratched yesterday with a sore back, also will have the day off. Russ Canzler gets a rare start at third base as Cesar Hernandez gets the start at second base. Jeff Francouer gets the start in right field, while Darin Ruf gets a day off.
