Kyle Kendrick bids for his 11th win of the season against the Nationals on Sunday. (Kevin Durso/Philliedelphia)
A 5:05 start time on a Sunday is rather unfamiliar. What was not familiar was Saturday night's result.
Another bullpen meltdown led to another loss for the Phillies. Despite a four-run second, the offense went silent for the remainder of the game and a five-run seventh, complete with two-run go-ahead home run from Jayson Werth, gave the Nats the lead for good.
The Phillies (52-64) try to salvage Sunday's series fianle as the Nationals (56-60) go for the sweep.
Kyle Kendrick (10-8, 4.36 ERA) gets the start for the Phillies. Kendrick allowed five runs – four earned – in six innings against the Cubs. Kendrick last faced the Nationals on July 11, allowing one run in seven innings in a win. In his career against the Nationals, Kendrick is 5-6 with a 4.42 ERA. At Nationals Park, he is 2-2 with a 5.02 ERA.
The Phillies will face right-hander Stephen Strasburg (5-9, 3.01 ERA). Strasburg allowed two runs over seven innings in his last start, taking the loss. Strasburg faced the Phillies on May 26, allowing one run in eight innings in a win. In his career against the Phillies, Strasburg is 1-1 with a 4.43 ERA. At Nationals Park, he is 12-10 with a 2.65 ERA.

- The next win will be win No. 1,000 for Charlie Manuel in his managerial career. Manuel is 779-633 in his time with the Phillies. He would be the 59th manager to reach that milestone.
- The Phillies have lost 10 straight road games, having not won on the road since July 19 against the Mets.
- Kevin Frandsen and Jimmy Rollins all have home runs in their careers against Stephen Strasburg. Rollins has the most experience facing Strasburg, going 1-for-12 lifetime.
