The Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins played each other on this fine Sunday at Hammond Stadium in Fort Myers, Florida. Minor League starter Michael Stutes took the mound for the Phils, and Francisco Liriano took it for the Twins.

Some notes to keep in mind: 16 players were sent down to the minors, and starter Michael Stutes was clearly not one of them. In the intra-squad minor league game, Roy Oswalt started against some Iron-Pigs, Crosscutters, Threshers, and Blueclaws, and young pitching prospect Brody Colvin started for the minor leaguers. In the Phillies-Twins game, Delwyn Young fielded in left for the Phillies, and Delmon Young fielded in left for the Twins while Dmitri Young watched. Weird stuff.

Scoring plays of the game:

  • 5th inning: This inning started out with Joe Nathan on the bump for the Twins. He allowed a double to Martinez, a single to Galvis, another double to Barfield who scored Martinez, another double to Valdez who scored Galvis and Barfield, a walk to John Mayberry, then gave up a 3-run homerun to Delwyn Young. 6-0 Phillies.
  • 7th inning: With Matt “fastball” Anderson on the mound, Delmon Young and Matt Hollimon singled, followed by two wild pitches, one scoring Young. Jim Thome reached on a fielding error by Mayberry, scoring Hollimon. Ryan Edell replaced Matt Anderson while the bases were loaded, and threw a wild pitch, scoring pinch-runner Daniel Rohlfing. 6-3 Phillies.

Tomorrow, the Phillies will visit the Astros at Osceola County Stadium.
