Phillies, Vance Worley Look to Rebound From Mets Loss; Take on Jon Niese, New Nose
Coming off of yesterday's 5-2 loss to the Mets, the Phillies and Vance Worley will face Mets lefthander Jon Niese. The Phillies scattered 11 hits yesterday, but could only muster one run.
Niese (1-0, 4.50), with a fresh new nose courtesy of Carlos Beltran, took a no-hitter into the 7th inning of Sunday's game against Atlanta, but gave up three runs before he finally departed that same inning without recording an out. Nonetheless, Niese earned a win in that start.
Niese's last spring appearance was not very impressive, giving up 5 runs in just 1 2/3 innings in relief of Mike Pelfrey.
Worley (0-0, 1.50), was impressive in his first start, giving up one run and five hits to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
David Wright will rejoin the Mets' lineup today, broken finger and all. Just earlier today the Mets' website was talking a possible disabled list stint for Wright:
"David Wright's fractured right pinkie could send him to the disabled list. The 29-year-old third baseman has been cleared to play as long as he can bear the pain while performing the game's fundamental tasks, but that may not be possible."
The Phillies lineup features catcher Brian Schneider, a frequent battery-mate of Vance Worley, and Ty Wigginton at first base against the lefty Niese.
Today's Lineup vs New York:
- Shane Victorino CF
- Placido Polanco 3B
- Jimmy Rollins SS
- Hunter Pence RF
- John Mayberry LF
- Ty Wigginton 1B
- Freddy Galvis 2B
- Brian Schneider
- Vance Worley P
Today's game will be carried by Comcast Sports Net, and first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
