As the rosters continue to slim up even more and the few battles left intensify, another spring training is winding down but not before another prime time contest against the Yankees at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa tonight.
Jeff Manship takes the mound for the Phillies making what is probably his final case to make the Opening Day roster. The non-roster invitee has made a compelling case despite some very good competition from the system's own David Buchanan. Manship is 1-0 in 5 games with 16 innings pitched, 2.25 ERA, 14 K, 2 BB, and 1.13 WHIP. Another impressive start could earn him a temporary spot in the rotation and possibly the bullpen after Cole Hamels returns.
Other news concerns Mike Adams who is going to make his Grapefruit League debut this evening and pitch an inning. The line up is a pretty good idea of how the regular season line up will look, assuming Bobby Abreu does in fact make the roster.
Going for the Yankees is Adam Warren. Line up wise, it appears as we'll see their Opening Day lineup, minus Jacoby Ellsbury. The Yankees have set their rotation with C.C. Sabathia slated for the Opening Day start followed by Kuroda, Nova, Tanaka and most likely Pineda. In other Yankees news, Derek Jeter has been horrendous this spring hitting .114 which isn't a good sign as the long tenured shortstop heads into his final season.
Game Notes:
- Jim Salisbury reports that David Buchanan has been informed he will not make the club. He is however expected to pitch at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday in the final game of the On Deck Series against the Pirates.
- Catcher Koyie Hill has been added to big league camp as Cameron Rupp and Sebastion Valle have been sent to the minors.
- Freddy Galvis showed up to the clubhouse today after four days in the hospital being treated for MRSA.
