This has been a long time coming. Perhaps the most prized prospect of the deal that sent Cliff Lee to Seattle in 2009 looks to have finally lost his spot on the 40-man roster. Early Wednesday morning, CSNPhilly's Jim Salisbury reported that Aumont had been sent to the minors, but since he is out of options, it is likely he already cleared waivers. Aumont's inability to consistently find the strike zone was never resolved, resulting in his removal from the 40-man roster
In 2011, Aumont posted a combined 2.68 in 53 2/3 innings between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He debuted at the end of 2012 for the Phillies and hung around for 18 games with the big league club. He looked like he might be getting things together. In 14 2/3 innings, Aumont had a 3.68 ERA.
In 2013, his command issues were too much, which ended up with him being flip flopped numerous times between Philadelphia and Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Last season, he spent the most of his time with the Ironpigs, going 3-3 with a 3.93 ERA. He only saw 5 2/3 innings of big league time in 2014, allowing 12 earned runs.
UPDATE: The Phillies have also outrighted Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez off of the 40-man roster and sent Brian Bogusevic to minor league camp.
