Philllies Add a Catcher to Help the Organization Carlos Ruiz’s Absence; Erik Kratz Sticking Around
Erik Kratz needs to stick around while Carlos Ruiz rehabs his ankle injury and one more injury would leave the Phillies very depleted, so the Phillies added former Cubs, Athletics, and Orioles catcher Jake Fox on a minor league contract. AAA Lehigh Valley has both Sebastian Valle and John Suomi, but neither would be a realistic option should Brian Schneider or Erik Kratz sustain an injury.
Fox is not unlike Erik Kratz in age and experience. 30 years old, Fox has played 173 games in the major leagues and in 489 at bats has a .237 average, with 20 home runs and 73 RB I. His last spot in the majors was last season with the Baltimore Orioles when he batted .246 backing up Matt Wieters.
Fox joined Lehigh Valley in time for last night's game and went 2 for 3 with a walk.
