With a series loss the the New York Mets, the Phillies four-game winning streak is a thing of the past. However, they're still on a stretch in which they have won seven of their last ten games, and will continue to play against other National League Eastern teams with today's contest. Today's matchup will also be each team's first game in September. In the past, the Phillies have been known for their dominance in the final month of the season, typically on their way to the playoffs. They may not be contenders this season, but that doesn't stop their opportunity to play spoiler throughout the month, with games against playoff teams in both leagues.
The pitching matchup is a dream for fans of low-scoring contests. On the Phillies side of the ball, ace lefty Cole Hamels will take to the hill. He's coming off three straight starts with three earned runs allowed, at least eight hits surrendered, and a total of ninteen innings pitched. His last outing against the Braves saw him go seven innings with just a single earned run allowed. He'll be up against Julio Teheran, the young right hander leading the rotation. Teheran has gone three straight starts with at least six innings pitched and three total runs allowed. He has faced the Phillies three times this season, and has a shutout to go along with another fifteen innings of two-run ball.
