The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets returned to action on Sunday after two consecutive rain outs with a traditional doubleheader. The Phillies took game one 3-2 to snap a four game losing skid. The Mets retuned the favor winning game two 6-1.
Game 1: The Phillies handed Max Scherzer his first loss in 343 days. Bryce Harper got Philadelphia on the board with homer (6) in the 1st. Harper followed up in the 3rd with an RBI single to extend the Philadelphia lead to 2-0. Bryson Stott added another Philadelphia run in the 4th with an RBI single to make it 3-0. The Mets scored twice in the 6th, an RBI fielders choice from James McCann and an RBI double from Francisco Lindor.
Philadelphia starter Kyle Gibson added another quality start to his season statistics. Gibson went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits. The bullpen was able to close out the game with three scoreless innings. Corey Knebel earned his fifth save of the season.
Game 2: New York's Pete Alonso homered twice (7) off of Philadelphia starter Cristopher Sanchez to account for five of the Mets six runs. Philadelphia's only run came on a solo homerun from Jean Segura (3) in the bottom of the 2nd. The homer was Segura's 100th career homerun.
Sanchez got the sport start replacing Zach Eflin who was placed of the COVID-IL prior to the game. Chris Bassitt started for New York and allowed one run in 5-2/3 innings to earn the victory.
