This afternoon in Sarasota, Roy Halladay single handedly removed any ounce of doubt that reporters had about his pitching. But, come on, why would anyone doubt Doc's abilities in the first place? Roy pitched a very strong six innings allowing three hits, one earned run, striking out five and walking none.
Everybody (for the most part) hit today against the Orioles. Ty Wigginton singled in the first run of the game in the first inning for the Phils. Adam Jones came back in the same inning with an RBI double to score Nolan Reimold. Tied game.
Freddy Galvis, the probable Opening Day second baseman tripled in the seventh inning for the second consecutive day, scoring Michael Martinez and breaking the tie.
Scott Podsednik scored in the top of the eighth on a single from Pete Orr, making it a 3-1 game. Erik Kratz added an extra insurance run in the ninth inning with a solo homer.
Papelbon, Stutes, and Herndon all pitched scoreless innings in this game. All three are having excellent springs.
So, in the second meeting of the spring between the Phils and Orioles, the Phillies came out victorious. Tomorrow, the Phillies have their first off day of spring training. They will visit the Blue Jays again on Thursday and play some afternoon baseball.
