Billy Joel will be returning to play at Citizens Bank Park on August 13, 2015. A six-time Grammy Award winner with 33 Top 40 hits, the 65-year-old musician has sold more than 150 million records worldwide.
Senior Vice President of Administration and Operations for the Phillies, Michael Stiles, is enthusiastic of the announcement by Live Nation:
"This year marks the 10th anniversary of concerts at Citizens Bank Park. We are proud to lead off with the exciting news that legendary artist Billy Joel will take to the stage for the fourth time at our world-class ballpark on Thursday, Aug. 13, performing here more than any other entertainer in the history of Citizens Bank Park."
Joel's last concert at the Phillies' stadium was held just this past Summer on August 2, 2014. That ended a five-year gap since taking the stage with Elton John in July of 2009 for their Face 2 Face tour.
You never know what the singer/songwriter and musician will bring to the table, or should I say 'piano'. Last Summer, he covered one of the greatest-known songs linked to Philadelphia:
He even brought out the Philadelphia-native R&B vocal group, Boyz II Men:
Along with Piano Man, which was Joel's first major hit and was released in 1973, other classics will surely make the setlist such as Allentown, The Entertainer, We Didn't Start the Fire, Only The Good Die Young, and Uptown Girl. Who could forget New York State of Mind, You May Be Right, A Matter of Trust, Movin' Out (Anthony's Song), Scenes From An Italian Restaurant, Vienna, and the always-chilling Goodnight Saigon, as well?
Tickets for the concert will go on sale at 10 a.m. ET next Friday, January 30, 2015. Purchases can be made on www.ticketmaster.com, or by calling 800-745-3000. Make sure to secure your seats fast, as Joel's 2014 event at the ballpark was sold out after just 45 minutes.
Recent performers that held concert events at the now 11-year-old venue include: Jason Aldean, Beyoncé and JAY Z, Justin Timberlake, Bruce Springsteen, and Roger Waters. Citizens Bank Park's first concert ever held was on August 25, 2005, featuring Jimmy Buffett & The Coral Reefer Band.
