Pivetta returns to the rotation as Phillies visit Colon, Braves

By Brandon Apter, Sports Talk Philly editor

Atlanta, GA — Following a 6-22 month of June, the Philadelphia Phillies (19-35) look to build on their series win against San Francisco as they open up a four-game set with the Atlanta Braves (24-30) on Monday night.

The Phillies rebounded from a 10-0 loss on Friday against the Giants to take the final two games of the series by scores of 5-3 and 9-7. Ben Lively pitched seven innings of one-run ball on Saturday for his first big league win in his Major League debut. On Sunday, Odubel Herrera had a three-hit, three-RBI day and the Phillies hit four homers en route to their series victory.

Meanwhile, Atlanta is coming off of a series win of their own against the Cincinnatti Reds. The Braves beat the Reds 13-8 on Sunday behind a 5-for-5 day at the plate from Ender Inciarte, a former Phillies Rule-5 selection. Atlanta ace Julio Teheran struggled, allowing seven runs in five innings, but Danny Santana hit two home runs, Matt Adams and Inciarte had homers as well to help the Braves outslug the Reds on Sunday.

To open up the Phillies and Braves series in Atlanta, Nick Pivetta will oppose veteran right-hander Bartolo Colon.
