Postgame Report Eagles vs. Giants
By Evan Krawczuk, Contributing Writer
The energy in the second half, WHERE HAS THAT BEEN ALL SEASON? There were some points where the offense was somewhat flat but the offense did just enough to tie the game up and force overtime. The defense did not play well in the second half. The Giants just happened to be really bad in the second half. In overtime, the Eagles came out HOT. Quick throws to Sanders and Scott got the Birds rolling all the way down on the game winning drive. At the half, the Eagles were down 17-3, and they played down to their opponent for the entire second half. Here’s what I saw in the back half of performance:
Boston Scott out of nowhere. Scott was a spark plug in the second half and overtime. He brought some energy to the offense and made some filthy moves on the Giants secondary to bring some life to the Linc. Scott even lowered his shoulder and fell into the end zone in what seemed to be a Jay Ajayi situation. Scott played really well replacing Miles Sanders and did everything in his power to will the Eagles to some points. Scott finished with one touchdown, six receptions, and 128 total yards. It’s somewhat embarrassing that second year, 6th round pick Boston Scott had to bring all the energy for this Eagles offense.
Yes, the punter is the defensive player of the game. No one on the actual defense really blew me away tonight so Johnston is the Defensive MVP. Johnston punted eight times including pinning the Giants inside their own twenty five times. Johnston averaged 48.4 yards per punt, incredible. Johnston forced the Giants to have long drives time and time again. He put our defense in great positions to succeed. Yes, our secondary blew multiple coverages but the way Johnston kicked forced the Giants to make plays like that. Johnston was very impressive tonight but its honestly a shame the punter was most instrumental in our defense’s success. Also, note that although the Giants didn’t score in the second half, the Eagles defense didn’t play well, the Giants offense just played really bad.
- Boston Scott – Like I said in his MVP portion, Scott balled out tonight. He was a spark plug for the offense and played pretty well receiving the ball out of the backfield and rushing the ball in between the tackles.
- Vinny Curry- Curry was under the radar tonight but actually played pretty well. Granted, his only production was in the form of TFLs and sacks but I don’t think any defensive coordinator in the league would be upset with that production.
- Again, Boston Scott. Scott pounded it in from two yards out after controlling the running back position for most of the second half.
- Zach Ertz scored right after the 2-minute warning to tie the game up. Ertz had a perfect stem t the outside before breaking in on the last route and made a great catch off of decent coverage.
- Huge moment- the Eagles won the OT coin flip that lead to the game winning touchdown pass to Zach Ertz
