Dave Hakstol's first preseason as Flyers coach is set to come to an end tonight, as the Flyers head to New Jersey for the tail end of a back-to-back with the Devils — giving them a chance to redeem for Wednesday's sloppy 4-2 loss.
The biggest storyline for the Flyers will be the play of Scott Laughton and Brandon Manning — two players in competition for the 23rd (and final) roster spot. Ron Hextall will have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to set the team's final roster.
Out of the lineup for the Orange and Black will be Chris Porter, who was claimed on waivers Thursday by Minnesota. Porter was waived prior to Wednesday's game, but remained in the lineup and scored the Flyers' first goal in the first period.
Sean Couturier and Michael Raffl are also expected to be out of the lineup for Friday's game, each with upper-body injuries. Michal Neuvirth is expected to sit out as well (yet still make the trip to Newark), as he was pulled after the second period of Wednesday's game for precautionary reasons.
Michael Del Zotto enters the game as the Flyers' leading scorer, thanks to assists on both of Wednesday's goals. Del Zotto has one goal and four assists in three games.
Second-year blueliner Damon Severson enters as the Devils' leading scorer, with three assists. Travis Zajac leads in goals with two — both of which were scored on Wednesday.
The Flyers had a day of rest on Thursday, as Hakstol cancelled on-ice practice in favor of video work. Friday's game will be the Devils' last as well.
